It may be a bit trite but last night I had some of the "it seems to be
everywhere" Bonny Doon pacific rim Riesling. I must have had this one
25 times over the years but it was surprisingly good. Fresh, maybe even
a little bit exotic with out being over the top. Pale straw with maybe just a touch of neon. Pretty floral tones and vibrant acidity. I pick up nectarines. Great food wine for
under $10 if not incredibly original. We had it with baba ganoush, hummus, schwarma's, and stuffed grape leaves.

2003 Leeuwin "Art Series" Riesling
The 2003 Leeuwin "Art Series" Riesling was the first fo this estates wine that I have I tasted. Brad Feuerbacher brough it over to match with the swordfish tacos. Coincidentally I had just read a great review on the 2002 version at Vinography.com and a great review of the sibling 2001 "Art Series" Chardonnay. I was excited to taste. Alder Yarrow writes on Vinography:
"Leeuwin Estate is a small production, family-run estate located in the Margaret River Appellation in Western Australia. The estate, originally a cattle farm, was founded in 1972 by Denis and Tricia Horgan with the help of none other than Robert Mondavi, who was a personal friend of the Horgans. Margaret River is a coastal appellation which benefits from a climate similar to that of Bordeaux, with the added advantage of a slightly longer growing season, which the locals claim helps to create a larger number of vintages whose conditions would be called superior in Europe."
Sexy citrus and apple nose. Some very exotic fruit flavors but they all play harmoneously together and remain understated. Great minerality on both the nose and toungue. Dry and precise. VIBRANT acidity. A damn near perfect food wine that would probably go with just about anything. We had it with fish tacos.
