Boston & Chicago last week

Last week we ate at Central Kitchen, No. 9 Park, B&G Oysters, and even managed to fit lunch at Blackbird during a four hour layover in Chicago.  Good things to write about all except for one bad bottle of wine which I'll expound on later. 

Wine.com gets screwcapped

I take a special interest when I see wine and the Internet converge.  The most recent chapter in the life of wine.com made me say,"ouch! that was hardcore."  Sometimes all you can do is bend over.

Great Burgundy site

I've been meaning to mention this for some time now but keep forgetting.  There is a great site dedicated solely to the pleasures of Burgundy called the Burgundy Report.  It is maintained as labor of love by Bill Nanson (he has a real job too.)  Bill does a great job exploring the region in an informative and positive way.  He is rather new as a wine commentator so it fun to see his experience grow from update to update.  Almost all of his things are done in the spirit of fandom and enjoyment rather than critique.  This is a huge positive of the the personal publishing wave in the Internet.  Big ups to Alder at vinograpy.com for this type of angle too.

Two suggestions I would make:

1. Hopefully he will compile all of his tasting notes into some sort of searchable database.  Shouldn't be too hard.
2. Do and update more than thrice a year.  Tough to wait so long for something so enjoyable in this Internet age of instant gratification.

Really, another article on Terroir?

Among wine blogs there is probably no topic that garners more back and forth then terroir.  Terroir literally means "soil" but in the context of wine it means all of the factors that impart a sense of place on a wine.  The soil, the unique climate, the people.  Guest contributor Steve Edmonds over at Vinography has put forth an especially insightful, and unusual, piece on the topic.
